Meet Our Board

David Russell
President
David Russell serves as the Chair of our Board of Directors. He is currently the Vice-President of Business Development at CareOregon, Inc. David holds a Master’s degree in Health/Health Care Administration from Loma Linda University School of Public Health and has 45 years of experience in the healthcare field. His areas of focus include healthcare services for medical groups, hospitals, and health plans. Notable roles in his career include serving as President of Adventist Health Portland from 2016 to 2019. Throughout his career, David has consistently focused on mission and vision-based strategies to expand access to free health services. He supports BGHC leadership in their efforts to improve access to care and sustainably expand the number of people served in the SW Washington region.

Randi White
Vice President
Randi White is the Vice Chair of the BGHC Board of Directors and currently serves as the Medical Group Administrator at Adventist Health Portland. She holds an MBA from Willamette University and a BA in Business from Walla Walla University, bringing 19 years of experience in hospital and medical group administration as well as nonprofit management. Randi is dedicated to supporting the underserved, connecting key community members with areas of need, and improving the lives of our neighbors. She strives to be a force for good by using her time, talents, and energy to serve those in need.

Pastor Michael Brackett
Secretary
Pastor Michael Brackett has served as a Seventh-day Adventist Church minister for over 23 years and is currently the Lead Pastor of the Meadow Glade Seventh-day Adventist Church in Battle Ground, Washington. Michael married the love of his life, Dawn, in 2002. They have three children and two grandchildren they adore. Michael's greatest joy is serving others to help them live their best life possible. He is proud to serve Battle Ground HealthCare as Secretary of the Board and loves seeing and hearing the stories of how we intentionally engage our clients with kindness and compassion.

Dr. Kamal Shaker, MD
Treasurer
Dr. Shaker joined the BGHC board in 2023 and currently serves as Treasurer. He has a long history in the medical community, most recently serving as Chief Medical Officer at Adventist Health Medical Group, Prior to that, Dr. Shaker was Pulmonologist/Intensivist at Portland Lung Clinic/Adventist Health and Clinical Assistant Professor (Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine) at Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU).

Dr. Dan Carl, MD
Director
Dr. Dan Carl began volunteering for Battle Ground Healthcare in 2020 and joined the BGHC Board in 2022. He has over 20 years of experience, specializing in nephrology. Dr. Carl completed his education at State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine and completed his Postdoctoral training at Virginia Commonwealth University Health System prior to him moving to the PNW, where is currently a Staff Nephrologist at Kaiser Permanente. Dr. Carl is known for providing excellent care to his patients and supports BGHC in our efforts to enhance access to care.

Dr. David Cheek, MD
Director
David Cheek, MD, is currently the Anesthesia Department Chair at Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center. He holds a BA in Biology from Pacific Union College and an MD from Loma Linda University Medical School. With 43 years of experience in medicine, Dr. Cheek specializes in obstetric anesthesia, cardiac anesthesia, and neurosurgical anesthesia. Throughout his career, he has held a wide variety of leadership roles. Dr. Cheek is dedicated to supporting outstanding patient care both in the hospital and at home, and he is committed to building a community with people who share the desire to make healthcare more accessible to everyone in southwest Washington. He aligns with Battle Ground HealthCare’s mission, believing that the whole community is made stronger and healthier when people have access to the healthcare they need but cannot afford.

David Nieda
Director
David joined the Board in 2020 and served as Board Chair from 2021 to 2023. He recently retired as Associate Director of the Northwest United Methodist Foundation. Prior to that, David served as District Superintendent for the Vancouver District of the Pacific Northwest United Methodist Conference and Senior Pastor at Blaine Memorial United Methodist Church in Seattle. He finds great alignment with the first two rules of Wesleyan theology to “do no harm” and “do good,” and the work of Battle Ground HealthCare. David believes in the core work of BGHC to provide much needed healthcare with care and dignity to the marginalized.

Nichole Peppers
Director
Nichole Peppers joined the board in 2023. She became Executive Director of Southwest Washington Accountable Community of Health (SWACH) in December 2021. Prior to this role, Nichole was the HealthConnect Networks Manager at SWACH. Before joining SWACH, she worked at YWCA Clark County as the Director of SafeChoice domestic violence programs. Committed to equity and anti-violence practices, Nichole has served as a member of racial equity assessment and planning committees since 2015. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Public Affairs from Washington State University and a graduate degree in Conflict Resolution from Portland State University.

Kyle Sciuchetti, P.C.
Director
Kyle Sciuchetti joined the BGHC Board in 2024. He is currently a partner at Miller Nash LLP and serves as outside counsel to many businesses throughout the Pacific Northwest. His practice includes civil litigation, with an emphasis on complex construction disputes and business matters in Washington, Oregon and Idaho. Kyle holds a BA in Psychology and Political Science from the University of Washington and a Juris Doctor from Lewis & Clark College, Northwestern School of Law.

Michelle Vanderhoef
Director
Since 2020, Michelle Vanderhoef has served as a Director on the Board at Battle Ground HealthCare. She operates an adult family home for Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA) clients requiring an enhanced level of care and works as a respite/personal care contractor. Additionally, she has experience as a job coach in special education and as a caregiver. As a past patient of Battle Ground HealthCare, Michelle has a special place in her heart for the organization and its mission. She believes in giving back to the community and is committed to supporting the mission of Battle Ground HealthCare to provide accessible healthcare to those in need.
